About GPR Canada
GPR Canada is a growing geophysical company, headed by Andy Maycock, a UBC geophysics grad and Middlesex University, (London, UK) MBA alumni. Andy is a member of the CSEG, EGBC, APEGA and a registered Professional Geophysicist in both BC and Alberta.
After spending over 25 years conducting and analyzing subsurface investigations for the oil, mining and engineering industries, Andy decided to focus on supplying societies need for near surface high resolution studies. GPR Canada engages in all aspects of work involving Ground Penetrating Radar and shallow seismic. Examples are subsurface contaminant detection on brownfield sites, buried tank detection, private utility locating, shallow geology surveys, archeological surveys, forensic investigations, tree root mapping and concrete scanning.

The GPR Canada difference
Most companies treat Ground Penetrating Radar as a “black box” system. System default settings and procedures are the norm.
The truth is, however, that GPR is a highly complex application of electro-magnetic radio wave propagation theory. Accurate results with GPR can only be achieved with careful attention to recording, data acquisition, processing flows and parameter selection. Poor parameter selection results in poor results, leading to missed objectives, wasted time and wasted money. This phenomenon is referred to in acedemia as GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out).
At GPR Canada, all data sets are collected and processed under the supervision of the Chief Geophysicist, who has 25+ years experience in the collection of data and application of signal processing theory. Before you acquire your GPR dataset, ask your supplier to explain their approach and methodology.
Geophysics for Truth

Geophysics for Truth is an initiative created by Dr Alexander Braun (Queens University, Kingston, Ontario) inspired by his desire to support efforts in Truth and Reconciliation.
Here is how Dr Braun describes the initiative: “Geophysics For Truth is a volunteer initiative of geophysicists providing pro bono geophysical surveys, training and expertise for Indigenous Community’s projects across Canada. We are offering Ground Penetrating Radar and other geophysical survey techniques to help with the detection and identification of burials related to former residential school sites.”
Key aspects of the initiative:
-
Geophysical Surveys, Training and Expertise are always provided pro bono
-
All data, maps, and results remain confidential and all related decisions and use remain 100% with the respective community
-
All methods are non-invasive, no digging, trenching, dredging or drilling is required.
-
GFT will apply professional standards to all aspects of the projects.
GPR Canada is proud to be a volunteer member of the GFT community. For more information on the GFT initiative, visit
